Chainsaw Chain Knife – Fun YouTube Build ~ Made By Kyle Royer
This knife isn’t your typical high-end Royer piece, it’s a one-of-a-kind challenge build that started as a YouTube experiment and turned into something bold, raw, and unforgettable.

Half of the blade is forged from actual chainsaw chains, welded together and twisted into striking Damascus steel. The darker portions of the pattern are the chain itself; the bright steel is powdered steel I added to fill the voids. The result is a wild, bold pattern that instantly grabs attention.
Because the steel in the chainsaw chain is unknown, the heat treatment is not to my usual precise standards. The blade hardened nicely and takes a sharp edge, but performance may differ from my knives made with known steels. The tip has been slightly over-tempered during welding, making it a little softer than I’d normally allow. The finish is a 320-grit etch, compared to the 1000–1500 grit polish I give my premium customs.
The handle is made from sharpened chainsaw chain links TIG-welded together. It’s sharp to the touch (you’ll want a glove if handling aggressively) and not the strongest handle in the world, but it matches the theme perfectly and looks incredible.
For this project, I added my special challenge logo (inspired by the Star Wars Rebel symbol and a fleur-de-lis) instead of my standard K~ROYER~MS mark. That distinction is important: my K~ROYER~MS maker’s mark is reserved for pieces that meet my strictest standards. This logo tells you this is something different—an experimental, knife straight out of the forge and the YouTube shop floor.
If you’re looking for a perfect, flawless Royer custom, this isn’t it. But if you want a piece of knifemaking history, a knife born from chainsaw chains, fire, and experimentation, this is your chance. It’s raw, it’s sharp, it’s unique, and it will make you smile every time you pick it up.
