The Showstopper: A Mosaic Damascus Nakiri
When I made the Nakiri, I had a few people in mind. I pictured someone who loves to cook and entertain—someone who takes their time, enjoys the process, and isn’t afraid to show off a little.
The handle is made from dyed and stabilized maple burl—beautiful and durable. It has a bit of an Asian influence in the shape, something that just felt right in the hand. I smelted and poured a custom copper alloy bolster, textured and distressed it myself, and finished it off with a domed bronze pin.I like when a knife has character—when it looks like someone made it on purpose, not like it just rolled off a conveyor belt.
There’s a message in this knife:
Admire me. Use me. Enjoy me. Rinse and repeat often.
And when someone picks it up for the first time, I hope they feel exactly what I felt when I finished it:
Wow.
